Children’s Dentistry at Adelaide Dental Spa

Early dental visits help children reduce their chances of tooth decay and develop a positive relationship with the dentist. By introducing them to the clinic at a young age, we ensure they feel comfortable and confident during their visits. Unfortunately, many children only see a dentist when they experience pain, which can create negative associations.

Your Child’s First Checkup

At Adelaide Dental Spa, we recommend a child’s first dental checkup by the age of 4. They can also accompany a parent or sibling to observe and familiarize themselves with the environment. The more comfortable they become, the more positive their dental experience will be.

During their first appointment, we move at their pace, allowing them to explore the office and enjoy the coloring station while you complete necessary forms. TVs on the ceiling help keep children engaged during exams. If they’re only comfortable with a simple ride in the chair and some oral hygiene guidance, we respect their comfort level and gradually introduce more.

If treatment is needed, we schedule a separate appointment. However, if your child is in pain, we provide same-day emergency care.

CDBS Accepted

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) offers eligible children aged 2-18 up to $1,000 in free dental treatment. Services covered include checkups, sealants, mouthguards, and fillings. If your family qualifies for Medicare, you may be eligible. Our patient care coordinators are happy to assist with any questions regarding this benefit.

Additional Preventative Services

Fissure Sealants

Sealants help prevent cavities by protecting deep grooves in the molars where bacteria can accumulate. These thin protective layers are applied in just minutes, without the need for numbing. We recommend sealing permanent molars as soon as they erupt, typically around ages 6 and 12.

Protective Mouthguard

Children and teens involved in sports are at a higher risk of dental injuries, including broken teeth, lip lacerations, and concussions. Custom mouthguards provide the best protection and significantly reduce the risk of dental emergencies.

Orthodontic Evaluations

Monitoring a child’s bite and dental development allows early intervention before significant orthodontic issues arise. Experts recommend an orthodontic evaluation by age 7, which we include in routine checkups.
